5th & 6th year French students went to see French Canadian film Une Colonie on Thursday 9th January. It wasn't quite the latest Starwars or Avengers Endgame, but it explored themes related to adolescence, coming of age and social exclusion of the indigenous Canadian Indian tribe, the Abenaki.
In class the day before, prior to seeing the film, the students used the Film Studies Guide specially produced by the IFI and the French Embassy to analyse the trailer and anticipate what might happen in the film.
Chanel College 2 (Dunne, Cody-Murphy) Luttrellstown 4
Chanel bowed out of the Leinster cup after a titanic struggle at the Parnell’s complex (Loftus road) on Tuesday 7th January. Despite falling behind twice, Chanel twice battled back and were in the hunt for the win when two late goals decided the tie.
Luttrellstown came out of the blocks fast and, playing a high line, they penned Chanel back in their half. Chanel struggled to get their normally slick pressing and passing game going. Did we show them too much respect...
The end of term award ceremonies took place on Thursday 12th December for 1st, 2nd and 3rd years. Certificates were awarded across three main categories: Consistent high quality work, most improved student and stand-out good behaviour. Irish, English and History were the three subjects considered this time.
Good attendance was also highlighted, with those students who didn't miss a single day in the last term being rewarded with Selection boxes, in the spirit of Christmas.
Chanel College 3 (Fogarty, Moore, Delaney-Murphy) Colaiste Choilm 1
Chanel eased into the knockout stages of the Metro League with a well-deserved victory at the Parnell’s Loftus road complex on Thursday 12th December.
Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze Chanel dominated the early exchanges. Dunne went close. Eli passed when he might have swung a leg. Swords were penned back in their half. Players to really lay down a marker and physically impose themselves were the usual suspects: ‘...
TY students organised and ran their hugely successful Christmas Trade Fair on Tuesday 10th (for family and friends) and Wednesday 11th December (for all Chanel students and staff). The range of beautiful handmade products this year was outstanding, from Christmas decorations, fridge magnets to wine glass holders and lots more. Trade was brisk on Tuesday evening but there was still lots to choose from on Wednesday as students proudly presented and explained their products.
Well they weren't quite dancing, but on Wednesday 4th December, all 2nd years students went on an ice-skating trip to Swords on Ice at the Pavilions as an early Christmas celebration. They were accompanied by their year head, form teachers and SNAs - although not too many of whom were brave enough to take to the ice!
Initially most people were a little hesitant, staying close to the edge or using the penguin, reindeer or seal skating aids. However, by the end of the session, lots were whizzi...
Ashbourne CC 0 Chanel College 6 (Moore, Moloney, Lynch 2, Molloy, Dunne)
Chanel travelled out to Ashbourne on a crisp autumnal day and delivered a very powerful performance. Played in ideal conditions, Chanel passed the ball around quite beautifully in the early stages. Lynch, Moore, L, Donnelly and Delaney controlled the midfield and kept the opposition penned back. Against the run of play though, Ashbourne manufactured two clear chances from two lapses in concentration. On both occas...
