The school’s Guidance Counsellor is Mr Leonard Woods.

 

A comprehensive Career Guidance programme is delivered at all stages in Chanel College.

Junior Cycle Programme
  • Support a successful transition from Primary to Post-Primary school

  • Provide information on choice & levels of subjects for Junior Cycle

  • Deliver subject choice evenings for parents

  • Advise on implications of subject choice for career choice

  • Provide general career information

  • Run workshops on study skills and examination techniques

  • Help devise coping strategies

  • Provide Personal Guidance and support for all students

Transition Year Programme
  • Conduct Careers Inventory Tests and Personality Tests

  • Present opportunities available on leaving school

  • Introduce the National Framework of Qualifications Levels 1-10

  • Outline requirements for third level institutions       

  • Explain the Points System, CAO & Alternatives         

  • Provide information on a wide variety of career choices including apprenticeships, teaching, nursing, etc.

  • Support students as they explore areas of career interest, conduct research and submit a Project on one area of interest in relation to a chosen career.

  • Provide coaching for the world of work: C.V.’s, Application forms, Letters of Application, Interview Techniques

  • Facilitate Mock interviews held by link businesses in the area

Senior Cycle Programme
  • Support the successful transition from Junior Cycle to Senior Cycle

  • Advise on implication of Levels at which subjects are taken in relation to career choice

  • Train in the use of ICT in Educational Guidance / Career Choice

  • Conduct Careers Inventory Tests and Personality Tests

  • Help students research career areas of interest using ICT

  • Explain the Points System, CAO & Alternatives

  • Host Career information evening for 6th year parents and students

  • Provide information on a wide variety of career choices including apprenticeships, teaching, nursing, etc.

  • Provide coaching for the world of work: C.V.’s, Application forms, Letters of Application, Interview Techniques

  • Facilitate Mock interviews for all 6th years by parties from the relevant career areas

  • Organise Guest speakers from Various Universities, Institutes of Technology, Post-Leaving Certificate Colleges and career areas to address interested students

  • Coach in Study skills, Examination Techniques, Motivation and Stress Management.

  • Conduct one to one Career Guidance Interviews with Leaving Certificate students

  • Provide Personal Guidance and Support for all students
