What a fantastic sports day we had on Friday 17th May.
5.1 had lots of fun but they were also very competitive and were crowned Sports Class of the Year.
1.1, 2.2, 3.1 and 6.2 were winners across their respective years.
The newly introduced sack race proved hugely popular and those who didn't fully master the technique, fell over in laughter.
It was wonderful to see everyone out enjoying themselves and participating.
The much-anticipated 6th Years v Teachers football game lived up to all the hype. The teachers somehow managed to throw away a comfortable 2-0 lead for most of the game (with a little help from goal scorer Callum Molloy). They dominated on the pitch and Callum was nearly set up for a hattrick once or twice. Alas that wasn't the script for the day that was in it. Brandon McDonnell won one back with a lovely header and somehow, literally in the dying minute of the game, Cillian May scored a volley from a free kick. Although many questioned had the ref lost his stopwatch. In fairness, there were questions about the maths teachers' (on the pitch) ability to count, when a 2 for 1 substitution was made and for a few minutes there were 12 teachers on the pitch!
It all came down to a penalty shoot out and when the 6th Years shots couldn't be stopped it gave them the perfect ending to their last day at school!!
Days like these make us all so happy and proud to be part of the Chanel Community, staff and students alike. Thanks as ever, to everyone who helped and contributed and Mr O'Keeffe in particular for pulling the whole thing together.
