Awards Night 2022

Awards night is always a very special night in Chanel College. It is the occasion to stop and recognise our students' great achievements during the year. Awards go to those who have excelled academically, but equally importantly, awards go to those students who always strive to be their best self or those who make an outstanding contribution to their class or school life in general.

The three awards in each class are:

Best academic

Most improved

Special merit

Subject teachers nominate students to the Form teachers and the student with the most nominations wins the award. Year heads also oversee the prestigious Student of the Year award, which is a huge achievement to win across the hundred odd students in any one year.

Deputy Principal, Ms Brazil, expertly presided over events for the evening and had warm words of praise and encouragement for the students as they accepted their awards. She encouraged them to aim high, always be ambitious and consider going to college even if no one in their family had done so before.

Guest speaker for the night was past pupil Michael Gleeson who graduated in 2009. Michael told his very inspirational story to all those assembled. In 6th year, he was drifting a bit and uncertain what to do with his future. Thankfully, following some helpful career guidance from Mr Woods, he decided to do a business degree in DCU and has never looked back since. After graduating, he started at the bottom of the ladder in one of the banks. Through sheer determination and hard work, he built an extremely successful career in banking, rising through the ranks to senior management and was recently head hunted by one of the rival banks.

There is no doubt that equally bright futures await all the lads that received awards on the night - so well done and keep up your amazing achievements.
