Every year we encourage our TY students to develop their writing skills by reporting on the many sporting events that happen in Chanel College every week.
The following is an account of the closing matches of the season for our Badminton Team, written by TY student Max McCann.

Another Great Day For Chanel's Badminton Team
On Thursday 4th December, Chanel College's Badminton u16s and u19s A teams were back at it again, this time in Raheny playing Ardscoil La Salle.
The u16s team started off the day with their singles matches where Nathan Keith, Patrick Dunphy, Andrei Jauca and Ben Bryne went out and put on a great display, winning 3 out of their 4 games.
Afterwards, the u16s then took on the doubles games, where Nathan and Patrick paired up and narrowly lost with a 30-25 score. This was followed by Andrei and Ben's duo performance in which they destroyed their opponents with a 30-18 win. At this time Cian O'Rourke refereed his first Badminton game.
Next up, it was time for the u19s singles games in which Alvin Abraham, TJ Colemy and Joe Preston all won their matches impressively.
Following the singles games, the u19s went up for their doubles where Alvin and Max paired up and sadly were defeated. Meanwhile Joe and TJ played their double and came out with a tremendous win.
Special thanks to coaches Mr Sekar and Mr Seabrook for their tremendous motivation on the side-line on what turned out to be a pretty successful day for the team, who showed that their hard work in training has been really paying off.

Is it The Endgame For Chanel's Badminton Team ?
December 5th 2025
The day after Chanel's impressive performance against Ardscoil La Salle, the Badminton team was off to Balbriggan for a 2nd day in a row of competitive games. This time they were playing Ardgillan College.
The team arrived at Ardgillan College with enough time to get a few practice games in and warm up ahead of the matches that would determine whether Chanel's u16s and u19s A teams would proceed to the next stages of the competition. This was going to be a real tester for both teams.
To start off the day, the u16s played their singles games where Ben Byrne, Patrick Dunphy, Andrei Jauca and Nathan Keith put on a great display and came back with 3 out of 4 wins. Extra credit to Nathan as he won his game with flying colours.
Up next, it was time for the lads’ double games where, to change things up, the coaches paired up Nathan and Andrei to play their game. They then paired up Patrick and Ben. Unfortunately the boys did not come out successful and did not achieve the win they needed to progress through the competition .
It was now time for the u19s to give it their all in a bid to proceed in the competition. This started with the singles games where Chanel narrowly lost out in 3 of the 4 games, with TJ being the one to bring back an amazing 30-19 win against his opponents.
Afterwards it moved on to the doubles games in which TJ and Joe teamed up and narrowly lost. Meanwhile, Alvin and Max paired up and also lost their game. Unfortunately the team needed to win at least one of the games to progress in the competition.
The Lads have put on some great performances over their last few weeks and although they did not make it through, they will still be keeping up the hard work in training after school on Wednesday each week to get themselves prepared for next season.
If you're afraid that you will have to wait until next season to read another Badminton report, don't worry, Chanel's Badminton B team will start their games in the new year!
