St. Joseph's Fairview 4 - 2 Chanel College

u19s Leinster Senior Cup, Tuesday 18th October

After getting through the previous round at a canter, Chanel Under 19's dropped out of the cup in a high energy battle with Joey's of Fairview.

Chanel started the game with a very similar starting line up to their last game with only three changes made. Jamie Murphy stood tall between the posts and pulled off a number of hard-to-reach saves. Karl Popa stepped in to midfield and covered every square inch of the pitch while Stefan Madden started the game up front but moved to midfield in the second half and played a dominant role there, leading Chanel's resurgence.

Chanel dominated the early exchanges and were unlucky not to go ahead with a shot off the post but as the half progressed, it's fair to say that Chanel became a little casual on the ball whereas Joey's showed real hunger and drive and this led to them running up a three-goal lead by half time. Chanel, to their credit, did not give up and kept supporting each other. They started the second half with real intent and started to put real pressure on Joey's defence. Joey's looked rattled and started to make the kind of unforced errors a team makes when presented with real class.

Chanel didn't have long to wait and following the introduction of Cian Bradley and Sean Byrne, went one up when Sean pounced on a loose ball in Joey's box. Sean turned super-sub shortly after and volleyed a perfectly weighted cross into the bottom corner. The momentum was now well and truly with Chanel and they kept it up until the dying minutes when Joey's nabbed their fourth goal.

It was a disappointing finish for our lads but they can take real pride in their second half come back and will meet Joey's again in the league.
