Past students Careers Exhibition

On Thursday 1st December, Chanel College hosted a very successful and customised Careers night. The brainchild of Ms Brazil and Mr Woods, who on return from the RDS Careers Fair in September, listened to the feedback from our 6th years and understood that this big event was a bit overwhelming and intimidating for them.

They set about contacting past students, who are successful and well established in their chosen field, and invited them in to share their knowledge and experience with our current 6th years.

The aim for the evening was that our past students, would advise, encourage and inspire our current students and give them the chance to benefit from their wealth of expertise.

There was a huge uptake from past students and we are immensely grateful to them for giving so generously of their time and creating such a wonderful atmosphere and energy in the Colin Room on the night.

The stalls were organised around a variety of subject areas including: Art/Graphics, Business, College Life & Specialism, Culinary Arts, Defence Forces, Economics, Education, Engineering, Finance, IT, Science and Sport & Leisure.

6th years turned out in numbers and they mingled around the room at ease, asking specific and detailed questions.

For the teaching staff and SNAs it was so encouraging to see the mature, articulate, confident, successful and happy young men our 'once' students had become. The tables were turned - they even taught us a thing or too!

They whole event took a mammoth amount of planning & organisation and involved way too many people to mention individually. The 5th year prefects deserve a special mention all the same and we would like to thank the following local business who donated generously to the evening: - Lloyds Pharmacy, Coolock Village

- The Cock & Bull, Coolock Village - ICON, Coolock Village - The Odeon, Malahide Road - Glenmore Foods - Rachel's Banners

We really hope that some day our current 6th years will be the young men that come back to inspire the next generation of Chanel students.
