North Dublin Metropolitan League
Chanel College 3 (Fogarty, Moore, Delaney-Murphy) Colaiste Choilm 1
Chanel eased into the knockout stages of the Metro League with a well-deserved victory at the Parnell’s Loftus road complex on Thursday 12th December.
Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze Chanel dominated the early exchanges. Dunne went close. Eli passed when he might have swung a leg. Swords were penned back in their half. Players to really lay down a marker and physically impose themselves were the usual suspects: ‘Lock down the midfield’ Lynch, the ‘Destroyer’ Delaney but also Adam ‘the Mauler’ May who made some thunderous tackles all through the game. May also offered himself as an option going forward.
Fogarty opened the scoring with a tremendous turn and shot from close range. Some of his combination play with Dunne was vibrant and eye-catching.
Devon ‘Eleven’ scored number two from close range after another lung-bursting run from ‘Lock down’ Lynch and a clever Dunne-Fogarty combo. It was also at the end of the first half that Jude McKenna made an unbelievable double save from two different strikers that drew gasps of admiration from the teachers (McManus, McGonigle, Brady et al).
In the second half Chanel had to play their way out from the back, Reece Moloney used his cultured left boot to good effect here. Power at left full and Moore were great at getting us up the pitch. Molloy came on on the left and made a big difference. He also missed a sitter which I forgot to slag him about. Donnelly did the riverdance through the Swords’ defence but forgot to pull the trigger. All these missed chances (Fogarty’s too!) meant that when Swords got a goal back, it was game on again.
Luckily, Captain Fantastic stepped up! Cody-Delaney rampaged up the park like a Polish lancer on the charge. He thundered into the area and unleashed a shot that finished (net and all) in a field in Kilmore! And so the contest ended.
Well done to all. Big thanks for all the help putting the jersies away, the water and helping on the line. 16 men represented the school again. Excellent attitude, no yellow cards, no moaning at refs or coaches. You are all a credit to your families. Thanks for all that.
