Super win for u14 football squad
North Dublin Metropolitan League
Ashbourne CC 0 Chanel College 6 (Moore, Moloney, Lynch 2, Molloy, Dunne)
Chanel travelled out to Ashbourne on a crisp autumnal day and delivered a very powerful performance. Played in ideal conditions, Chanel passed the ball around quite beautifully in the early stages. Lynch, Moore, L, Donnelly and Delaney controlled the midfield and kept the opposition penned back. Against the run of play though, Ashbourne manufactured two clear chances from two lapses in concentration. On both occasions McKenna was equal to the task. Both saves were crucial as the game was still in the balance. McKenna’s positioning, concentration and communication were very impressive all through the game. Cody ‘Destroyer’ Delaney was immense in that opening spell. Time and again he put out the electricity with thunderous challenges. I think Cody was the rock of Chanel!
The industrious Devin ‘Eleven’ opened the scoring with a cool finish after Chanel had missed some chances. Lewis Moore played a fine assist and his passing and work rate were top notch. Reece ‘Riverdance’ Donnelly danced his way past a phalanx of Ashbourne defenders showing dazzling footwork (wearing Ryan’s boots!) to nutmeg the keeper just before halftime. Chanel deserved their lead. Eli’s shiny boots apparently put off the keeper!
Connolly was very composed at the heart of the Chanel defence. After a shaky start, Reece Moloney started to dominate the gigantic Ashbourne attacker. Tate and Power were very tidy in possession and offered defensive solidity on both flanks.
Scott Lynch out danced Donnelly to bury Chanel’s third. He added a fourth soon after and laid on a goal for Molloy after another lung-bursting foray. Lynch’s disciplined attitude has been very impressive over two games. He provokes defenders with his pace and controlled aggression but never reacts to bad challenges or referees not whistling.
Chanel made a series of changes and the team got even stronger! (Von) Ryan came on and made a nuisance of himself. He tormented the Ashbourne centre-forward. May went in at right full and threw himself into the challenges. The two culchie managers loved his whole-hearted display. Dunne then put the lights out for Ashbourne with a jink and a cool finish from 18 yards. His graft and bustling performance deserved this reward.
The Chanel team were again impeccably behaved. No yellow cards in two games. No backchat. No bad fouls. They played attractive football. They included everyone. There is a real cohesion and togetherness here. It is very enjoyable to be involved with such a squad of mature, well-behaved, helpful lads. Small gestures mean a lot- taking the gear off, looking after the water, tidying up gear on the line…bringing in the right gear!
Training next Wednesday 11 of December. Match next Thursday. Well done to all.
