The annual sponsored walk took place on Friday 29th September. It was a worrying start to the morning as torrential rain poured down and it was feared that the walk could not go ahead at all. School Management decided to hold off and review the situation hourly. We struggled through the first few classes, hoping for a break in the rain. A decision was made to go after small break on a shortened route through Raheny village. As the first runners were led out by Ms Heron it still looked ominous, but thankfully the skies cleared miraculously and before long a little sun even peaked through.
A great number of runners turned out, Competition was very tight, especially up the last stretch of Brookwood Avenue. A mere second separated the top two runners. Congratulations to Jamie Keating 2.2 on being the first runner home in a fantastic time of 24 minutes 09 seconds and to Mr Brady on being the first teacher to cross the line. The first 5 runners home were:
1. Jamie Keating 24 min 09 sec
2. S.Connor 24 min 10 sec
3. Mr Brady 24 min 28 sec
4. C. Reddy 24 min 34 sec
5. A. Hynes 24 min 39 sec
The shortened route suited many of us that are not so fit and before long everybody was back safe and sound in Chanel.
As ever, thanks to Mr O’Keefe and all his helpers for organising the event. A considerable sum of money was raised which will all go to school improvement projects.
