A huge congratulations to the Chanel u15 football team and their coaches Mr Carolan and Mr Deely on winning the final of the North Leinster Metropolitan League on Friday 1st February. They had an emphatic win over Colaiste Choilm, Swords.
The opposition started with a short tip off and tried to work the ball through but you could see that Chanel were the superior team from the off. It wasn't long until TJ Tighe banged a goal into the bottom corner from outside the box. Adam Lynch had given a lovely switch pass to Shane Maher who left the defenders behind with his pace and gave a low driven ball to TJ, who made no mistake.
Matthew Waters made a lovely save from a corner and played Shane Maher who couldn't be caught by the defenders down the wing. Shane played in to Cillian Clarke who took it very well for the second goal of the game.
Chanel's midfield played quick one touch football and showed great movement. This paid off when the ball was played to Adam Coyle who with his fast feet, got away from the the Colaiste Choilm defence and got Chanel's third of the game.
The opposition played a lovely through ball to their striker which our defenders couldn't catch but Matthew stepped up and got his save in just before the half time whistle.
The Chanel boys started off the second half with a goal. Peter O' Donnell knocked it through to Adam Coyle who again with his fast feet sent the defender the wrong way and banged in a lovely goal. The opposition seemed worn out at this stage and Shane Maher, after all his assists and defensive splitting runs, finally got his goal to make it five-nil.
Chanel are a very strong side and hope to go on to even greater success in the next stages.
