European Day of Languages

European day of Languages took place on Thursday 26th September. To celebrate this day, the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Department, with the help of Transition Year language students, organised a survey in which all our students in Chanel were asked about the languages they speak fluently. The results of the survey show that a good number of our students speak two or more languages at home. Apart from English and Irish, other spoken languages in the school are: Romanian, Russian, Polish, Italian, German, Turkish, Kurdish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Chinese, Malaysian, Algerian, Arabic and Maltese. Everyone that participated in the survey had a chance to win a cinema voucher for the Odeon Cinem

Resounding success for u16 Hurlers

Chanel U-16 hurlers had a very comprehensive victory over St Paul’s Raheny in a thrilling local derby at Parnell’s complex on Friday 20th September. Playing with the breeze, Chanel took control of the game from an early stage with a very authoritative midfield display from O’Toole’s and Dublin development star Luke Webster. Indeed a feature of the Chanel performance was the controlled passing and off the ball running from all six forwards. Tyler Featherstone (O’Toole’s) was another to impress and a point he scored over his shoulder moving away from the goal was one of the scores of the match. Matthew Waters (Trinity Gaels) moved in to fullback and completely dominated the opposition attack.

Rugby World Cup starts here!

Well done to the Chanel Rugby Team (2nd and 3rd years) who took part in a Leinster Development blitz in Clontarf on Tuesday 17th September. The lads had a fantastic day and played really well, especially considering this was the team’s second outing ever on a rugby field. They played 4 matches and even managed a draw against St Paul's, who are a rugby school and 4 divisions above Chanel. Standout players on the day were Scott Trimble, Dara O'Háinle, Seamus O'Driscoll, Jack Preston and Sean Maher. Well done to coach McGonigle and all involved.
