1st Year Welcome Ceremony

First years celebrated their new life in secondary school with a welcome mass in St Brendan’s parish church on Wednesday 24th October. Each form class was involved in preparing the mass, participating in the ceremony, doing the readings and saying the prayers of the faithful. The mass was celebrated by our Chaplain Fr John O’Gara and the choir made up of 1st year students accompanied by Mr Quinn on guitar, complemented proceedings with beautiful songs. Between the hundred students, their 5th year prefects and the Chaplaincy team, the church was nearly full. It was a beautiful ceremony that enabled the boys to reflect on and celebrate this new chapter of their lives in Chanel College.

Form Games, fun and friends

A new initiative called Form Games was organised on Friday 5th October by Ms O’Connor and the PE Department to celebrate Friendship week in the school. Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd year form class put forward a basketball and a football team to compete against each other. Matches took places in the hall and out on Parnell’s pitches. Each class quickly came together to work as a team and class spirit and camaraderie was very strong. Competition was equally strong too, with each class challenging to be overall winner for their year. After very tense finals, with great support from the side-lines, the overall winners were 1.3, 2.5 and 3.4. On behalf of the PE Department, a massive thank you to all tho
